Here are 5 must-have tools that every stylist has in their work bag and why you should have them too.
1) A heat gun. This is a must have to remove sticky labels from shoes without leaving messy glue reside behind. I personally prefer a mini version so it travels easier. I love this one here.
2) Invest in a portable steam. Ironing is a chore and a steamer can quickly refresh any garments. An expert tip is after wearing and item that doesn't require a trip to the dry cleaners for stains etc...I suggest hanging it up, and then giving with a quick steam and the next day, that garment should be able to go back into your closet for another wear before needing a trip to the cleaners. I used the Conair Turbo Extreme Steam Hand Held Fabric Steamer in my styling studio and love it.
3) A thread snip. This is the perfect little sharp scissors to trim any loose threads without snagging. It is small and easy to store. I like this version from Singer.
4) Portable sewing skit with multi color threads. I like to have one at home in my closet and then here's an expert trick, get a small one to put into your day bag or suitcase for trips. Most of them will already have a measuring tape, along with some basic tools. such as scissors, needles and maybe a thread snip (which I don't love because they are not as sharp as the Singer version). Here is the full version I love for our styling studio and here is the travel version I think everyone should have in their bag. No more loose threads. No more broken button emergencies.
5) A lint /fuzzies shaver. Trust me, get one of these for your home closet. It will keep your clothing, especially sweaters, and more organic fabric items looking newer for a long time. I like this version because it can be used with batteries or via a charger.
